Like Ellen DeGeneres or the DC Metro, the speed at which time is FLYING is a subject that pretty much everyone can agree on. It's dominated most of the small talk I've engaged in since graduating from college, but perhaps more than usual in the past few weeks: I sprinted toward the end of summer with weekend trips and evening outings for ice cream, and just as I registered that September was upon us, I wake up to 60-degree mornings, an autumn-themed Google doodle, and second thoughts on personal goals like "this year, I will not wear leggings to work."
Like most Floridian transplants now living above the Mason-Dixon Line, even though the dropping temperatures reawaken dark polar vortex anxieties, I've always had a thing for fall. The changing leaves are still magical to me, and there's always a little bit of excitement in the air. The air itself even smells better--fresh, crisp, and tinted with the blended scents of some rich person's crackling fireplace and over-ambitious Halloween candy.
In addition to fall smells, here's what else I'm looking forward to this season:
1. A weekend trip to New York to see Grace Potter at Radio City Music Hall.
2. Austin City Limits and visiting a friend who recently moved south.
3. Bike rides around the city that don't leave me dripping in sweat.
4. Soup.
5. A ton of book recommendations I'm excited to get through (in other words, many nights home on the couch because it's too cold to go out).
